Perth, Australia --- MININGREVIEW.COM --- 02 February 2012 - Anvil Mining Limited has announced that in a unanimous decision rendered in Montreal, the Québec Court of Appeal has dismissed court proceedings initiated in November 2010 against the company by the Canadian Association Against Impunity, a group of NGOs.
Anvil is a copper producer whose shares are traded on the Toronto Stock Exchange as common shares and the Australian Securities Exchange as CDIs under the symbol AVM.
In its decision, the Québec Court of Appeal reversed the judgment rendered by the Québec Superior Court in April 2011.
The proceedings, which were initiated in November 2010, related to an incident in 2004 in the town of Kilwa, in the north-east part of the Katanga Province of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). Prior to initiation of the proceedings in Québec, the incident and Anvil had been the subjects of several investigations and court proceedings both in and outside the DRC.
